Connect Board:
Always know your next move

The Connect System board, while not as widely recognized as system boards, is gaining a reputation for its unique approach to climbing training, particularly its accessibility across a wide range of skill levels.

Here are some of the key factors that make the Connect System board stand out:

  • Adjustable Angle: Similar to the Kilter board, the Connect System board can be adjusted to different angles, often ranging from nearly vertical to very overhung. This feature is crucial for its wide appeal. A beginner can start on a less-steep angle with larger holds, focusing on basic movement and technique, while an advanced climber can increase the angle to make the same holds and problems significantly more challenging. This versatility allows climbers of all levels to find an appropriate difficulty and progress as they get stronger.
  • Hold Variety and Ergonomics: While other boards are known for specific hold types (e.g., Tension’s slick wood holds for body tension, MoonBoard’s small, crimpy holds for finger strength), the Connect System board aims for a broader range. Its holds are designed to be more “forgiving” and comfortable on the fingers, which is a major draw for beginners and those looking to do high-volume training without excessive skin wear. This variety allows for a wider range of movement and problem styles compared to a board with a more singular focus.
  • Symmetry: Connect System boards feature a symmetrical hold layout, a characteristic shared with the Tension board. This is a powerful training tool that helps climbers identify and correct muscular imbalances by forcing them to perform the same moves on both sides of their body. This feature is particularly valuable for serious climbers looking to refine their technique and prevent injury.
  • A “Spray Wall” Feel with the Benefits of a System Board: The Connect System board feels more like a traditional “spray wall” (a climbing wall with a dense, random assortment of holds) but with the added benefits of a modern system board. The dense layout and variety of holds allow for creative, exploratory climbing, while the app-controlled lighting system provides the structure and repeatability of a system board. This combination makes it a great tool for both training specific problems and for unstructured, fun climbing.

In contrast, the MoonBoard and Tension boards are often seen as more specialized training tools:

  • MoonBoard: Known for its fixed, steep angle (usually 40 degrees) and small, difficult holds, the MoonBoard is a spartan training tool focused on building raw finger strength and power. It’s often considered less beginner-friendly due to its unforgiving nature.
  • Tension Board: With its all-wood, symmetrical hold sets, the Tension board is a technician’s tool. It’s excellent for developing body tension, precision, and balanced strength, but its slick holds and focus on specific movement patterns can be intimidating for newer climbers.

While the Kilter board also has a reputation for being accessible and having an adjustable angle, the Connect System board often emphasizes a different feel and hold set, which may appeal to a different segment of the climbing community. The Connect System board’s strength lies in its ability to bridge the gap between structured, specific training and the more general, fun experience of climbing, making it a viable option for a wider range of climbers from beginner to elite.

Coming in two sizes, 8×12 and 12×12, the Connect Board provides a wide range of wall angles and includes problems for all levels of climbing. The Connect Board is the the most accessible board to date while still providing expert level climbs.

Climb and train on the Connect app! Search and climb boulder problems of all difficulty levels. Create new boulders. Log ascents and browse your logbook. Follow other climbers. Find and share beta videos. Connect the app to the LED Kit via Bluetooth and light up the holds. Green = Start Hold, Magenta = Middle Hold, Cyan = Finish Hold, White = Foot Only
